We have seen the usual regional weirdness wandering about - the giant foam ears of corn on Iowa delegates, full head-to-toe American flag sundresses - but one visual which is almost wholly lacking from this Democratic political convention in Denver is the donkey.
The Internets says party mascot dates back to Andrew Jackson's days in office when his rivals called him a "jackass" -- and he was savvy enough to embrace the image for his own. Indeed, while spinning the radio dial in the car, we heard one local country music radio station had rebranded itself "The Jackass" for the duration of the week. Judging by the tone of the promo commercials they're airing, I'm thinking the station manager is pretty much a "Colorado is a red state" kind of guy.
Bray-haw, bray-haw.
