Inside The Big Civics Lesson

Dan Larsen and Andy Conneen are a pair of Chicago-area high school civics teachers and self-described "political junkies." For a couple days, these two guys have had run of the political arena which is the Democratic National Convention. Their biggest surprise about the spectacle? Too small.

"The seats are all crammed together," said Larsen. "The delegates came all this way and end up all on top of each other (at the Pepsi Center). I don't know why it's so small."

The Illinois delegates get a front-row seat ahead of tonight's show. Among Sen. Barack Obama's places he draws roots -- from Kansas to Hawaii and even Kenya -- Chicago is both where the perfunctory nominee's political career began and remains his core base. Dan and Andy will be in town tonight when would-be first lady Michelle Obama makes her prime time appearance.

You can follow and comment on Larsen and Conneen's online blog, or watch their video reports on cbs2chicago.com.
